Roosevelt Brown is one of the best NFL lineman ever.
And he’s this week’s legend in Morgan State history. The Black All-America at Morgan came out of Bear country in 1952 at the ripe age of 20 and joined the New York Giants.
He immediately earned a starting role for New York and held it for 13 seasons. His downfield blocking ability and unparalleled speed for a lineman separated him from the rest. He also terrorized other defensive lineman with his “classic” pass protecting ability.
Brown was named to the All-NFL team eight straight years from 1956 to 1963 and played in nine Pro Bowl games. He was named the NFL’s lineman of the year in 1956.
The crowning moment for this legendary Bear was being immortalized in NFL history.
In 1975, Brown was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Brown was later joined by Len Ford, Leroy Kelly and Willie Lanier in the Hall.
Roosevelt Brown was dominant on the gridiron and the Morgan community is proud to say he laid down the groundwork of a marvelous NFL career on the campus of MSU.
Roosevelt Brown is truly a Morgan legend.
