There is a new comic rising through the ranks to become a comedic legend. He is from Duval County in Jacksonville, FL. and is the first comic to appear on Cedric the Entertainer's "The Starting Line Up: Volume One." His name is Roland Powell and he wants to be internationally known for his style of entertaining.
After making his debut on "The Starting Line Up," he performed at several different venues. Many rappers have supported his efforts to entertain and have contributed to his success. His style of comedy is unique and hasn't been seen in years.
He has been on tours all over the United States and Europe such as the Mega Ven European Comedy Tour, RJE Urban Comedy, and Bud Light Comedy Tour. On the Bud Light Comedy Tour he shared the stage with Cedric the Entertainer and several other comedians. He is currently a part of the Hit n Run Tour and has been on one of BET's most successful shows "Comicview."
He has performed at the Uptown Comedy Club in Atlanta, GA. for the last three seasons. One of his most noteworthy appearances on the show was when he did his own rendition of Musiq's song "Just Friends." His version had the audience laughing uncontrollably. All of these accomplishments are proof that he is here to stay on the comedic scene.
Artists such as T.I. and the Eastside Boys have said he is funny and support him wholeheartedly. He has also appeared in hip hop videos such as T.I.'s "24s" and Trick Daddy's "Thug Holiday." These appearances have helped him to get the status of an internationally known comedian.
On October 1, 2003, Roland Powell released his first DVD, "Dat Boy Funny." In the DVD, he is at his best- raw and uncut. It is a blend of sketch comedy and standup which will have you laughing from beginning to end. The DVD showcases other upcoming comedians such as Shawty and Big Sean. It also has his music video "Drown in a River," a parody of Justin Timberlake's song "Cry Me a River." It is crazy and the plot is very hilarious and is expected to starting airing in early November. "Dat Boy Funny" is unlike any other comedy DVD and is a collector's item.
One thing is definitely for sure about Roland Powell. Whether you've seen him on stage performing or on TV, he is here to stay and is one of biggest upcoming comedians right now.
