As this year draws to a rapid, imminent close and many of us have surrounded ourselves with the grandeur traditions and whims of the holiday season, be it gifts and toys, shopping, decorating the tree, spending time with family and friends, watching football, carving that turkey, slaving over a hot stove, or sitting down to a good hearty home-cooked meal, (Which I'm sure many of us Morganites are looking towards considering the less then desirable quality of food made available to us at the Refac), it is worth noting once again that despite all of these wonderful things, we need to get back to the real reason for the season. Thus, during this past Thanksgiving break, I decided to push away from the table, put down the fork and knife, escape from family friends, and all of the rigmarole, and slide into my "secret closet", and reflect and meditate on this past year, what I'm thankful for, and my life in general. And as I reflected I penned the following thoughts which I will share with you. First and foremost, I'm thankful for my Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ, for him dying on the cross for such a wretch like me, and for his shedding of blood for the redemption of my sins. In him I am everything, and can do all things, and without him, I am and can do nothing. I'm also thankful for my family, which I've learned that even after my parent's recent divorce of 25 years of marriage, and a nasty split and division, is still the most important thing to me second to God. I'm thankful especially for my father, who adopted me when I was two, and has been there for me ever since, and has been the foundation with God that has helped me to become the strong man of God that I am today. And also for my meems, my Great Aunt Joan, who is my world. I'm thankful to God for my close friends and great associates, especially Viola, Betty, and Kendra, my sisters in the Lord and my "Three Musketeers". They have been there for me through thick and thin the last seven years of my life. And I love them all dearly as if they were my own. I'm thankful for my pastor and church family, The Reverend Bernard Smith and the Restoration Community Church, and for the opportunity to serve in ministry alongside of them. I'm also thankful for the opportunity to matriculate here at Morgan State University, to be surrounded by so many wonderful deans, professors, support staff, and friends. It is truly an honor to be able to attend one of the finest HBCU's in the country. I also thank God for allowing me to step into my purpose, which is truly an awesome experience. And in closing, let me not forget about the basics, I'm thankful for Food, shelter, water, air, clothes on my back, shoes on my feet, and that I'm in my right mind with a clean bill of health! God has truly been GOOD TO ME!!
