Hail Morganites! Welcome back for yet another semester of learning here at Morgan State University, and another go-round of enlightening, informative, and educational issues of the Spokesman. I hope that everyone had a relaxing, restful, exciting, and rejuvenating semester break, and that you've all had a chance to overcome that turkey, gift, or jet lag from the break, because now it's time to get back to the basics, put our noses to the grindstone, and make the grade this semester. And with the spring semester comes the passing away of winter and the birthing of spring. And as I thought about the springtime coming in, I began to think about seasons, and how they so often and suddenly change. "No not the natural seasons", my mind said, you have to go deeper. I'm talking about the seasons of life. Friendships come and go, people come and go, jobs and school situations and positions are constantly changing, we're in one place or one frame of mind one minute, and in another the next. Yes, even the "seasons" of life here at Morgan State University change. Over the break, we had some students move on, some come in. We had some staff come in, and some depart from us. Not to mention the ever-evolving changes that are occurring physically to our campus. And, as you can see, we've even had changes here at the Spokesman. We regretfully had to say goodbye to some of our staff, namely our former editor-in-chief, Christopher Price, whom I personally wish nothing but success to in everything that he does in life. Mr. Price really helped to take this paper to the next level, and truly left the Spokesman much better then when he came. I must admit, I felt a bit inadequate and timid about taking on this position, until I ran across this quote from Anais Nin, "There came a time, when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful then the risk it took to blossom." And I ultimately decided that it was worth the risk. And I truly do believe it would have been more painful to stay in the bud. In each editorial section of the Spokesman this semester, I want to leave you with a thought to ponder on and a challenge. My thought for you to ponder this semester is the very quote I just left you with. And my challenge to you for this week and ultimately this semester is to push beyond your fears, your hurts, your pains, and your heartaches, and to truly begin to reach out and blossom into the full men and women that you are capable of becoming. The sky is the limit this semester! It's OUR time to SHINE morganites! Until next week, Be encouraged!
